Palm Cove

Nestled in between the sprawling city of Cairns and the tropical town of Port Douglas lies Palm Cove - a 1.5km long beachfront village, perfect for tropical holidays. Palm Cove is surrounded by the mountains of the Great Dividing Range and looks over the pristine Coral Sea. There is easy access to the Great Barrier Reef and the lush Daintree Rainforest is only a short drive away. Palm Cove is described as a resort community, located on a palm fringed beach with many day spa options and luxury shopping.
For luxury beachfront holidays, Palm Cove accommodation is as good as it gets.
Palm Cove is well known for its fine dining. Many of the resorts along the palm lined esplanade have restaurants over looking the sea. There are several bars and cafes that also sit on the beach front so there is never a shortage of views when ever you have a bite to eat or enjoy a cool drink. There are various fashion outlets to be perused too with some specializing in beach and resort wear.
While stingers can be a problem between November and April, Palm Cove has a stinger resistant enclosure and is patrolled by life savers. So swimming is enjoyable all year round. As the name suggests Palm Cove is a palm tree lined cove (a small indentation or recess in the shoreline of a sea). The beach front Esplanade has shaded grassy areas perfect for walks and picnics.
Anglers love fishing off the beach and the Palm Cove jetty is also great spot to drop a line in. The Palm Cove jetty is where Great Barrier Reef tour operators start their journey. Looking out over the ocean you can see Double Island just off the mainland. The island has a unique double mountain peak and the whole island can be hired 'exclusively'. Nearby is Haycock Island (also called 'Scout Hat Island' as it resembles a scout hat). On a clear day out into the distance you can see Green Island to the east - about a 40 minute boat ride from Cairns.
In and around Palm Cove resorts there are a number of things to do. There are several golf courses in the area; horse riding through bush land; ATV tours for some serious quad biking action; white water rafting on the Tully, Baron and Russell Rivers; sky diving from 10,000 feet; luxury boat charters and scenic helicopter and 4WD rainforest tours.
For the ultimate in seclusion and luxury in the tropics, Palm Cove is the best choice for your holiday. Similar to Palm Cove - Port Douglas is well known for its luxury resorts. A quick 30 minute drive north will give you Port Douglas accommodation options for your next holiday. And just 25 minutes south you can find many Cairns hotels for accommodation for airport travellers arriving late at night.
